12 entries: people, channels, traders and authorities this site leans on. For each: what it is and why it gets quoted here — because a firewood trader is a different kind of source from a national park.
A citation is only useful if you can judge who is talking. That is why this page sits at the end of the reference section rather than the front: it is the instructions for everything above it.
Called in 2005 for Heritage Day on 24 September to be kept also as National Braai Day, and has written a run of cookbooks since. The campaign ran as Braai4Heritage.
Why it is quoted here He is the reason South Africa has a public argument about what the day should be called at all. You do not beat the brand with recipes — but there is room next to it.
Took on the role of national spokesperson for Braai Day in 2007. The National Heritage Council rejected the idea that same year as trivialising and backed it in 2008.
Why it is quoted here Without him the campaign would have stayed an advertising idea. With him it became an argument about what a public holiday is for.

South African cook, television maker and writer. Created the competition show The Ultimate Braai Master in 2012, a road trip across the country with fire as its thread.
Why it is quoted here The show moved braai from the back yard onto the map — and in doing so showed the range that our origin pages are about.
South African cook and historian. Placed Cape Malay cooking as food from Africa in 1995 and was the first to name its creolised nature in public — including the Khoekhoe influences that had been written out of the record.
Why it is quoted here The reason our line page says a cuisine that grew here rather than an imported curiosity.

Why it is quoted here A trader’s figure is a figure with an interest behind it — which is why on the wood page it never stands alone, but next to at least one other source.

Why it is quoted here That separation is the core of our wood page. That a trader draws it himself, while earning from both, makes the claim more usable.

Why it is quoted here The rules on our spots page are their rules, taken over with a date. We do not rewrite them and we do not copy the prices — those change every year on 1 November.

The Western Cape conservation authority. Runs the reserves off the peninsula and publishes the fire season information and the Fire Danger Index.
Why it is quoted here For the fire rules this is the body that is actually responsible. Everything else online on the subject cites them — or nothing at all.
