Worked backwards from when you want to eat
The braai planner
Pick the recipes, set the time you want to eat, count the guests. Out comes a schedule worked backwards — when to light the fire, what goes on when, how much wood you need and what to buy. The finished plan is a link.
How much meat per person?
What goes on the fire?
Pick as many as you like. The order at the grid comes from the recipes, not from the order you clicked them.
When, and for how many?
The schedule
Pick at least one recipe above. The whole afternoon appears here.
Wood
Worked out at 3 kg to get going, 4 kg per hour of grid work for four people, and 4.5 kg per hour for anything sitting in a pot. A practical rule of thumb, not a measurement.
Shopping list
Scaled to the number of guests and sorted by aisle. The same ingredient from several recipes is added up.

Perfect South African Braai Platter | Lamb Ribs, Chops, Wors & Braai Broodjies
A complete braai in real time, with the running order as its subject. Long, but the chapters make it usable.
- 13:58„Braai Broodjie Options“ — What may go between the slices and what may not — chutney is not an option, it is the thing itself.
- 25:32„Lamb Chops and Ribs On The Braai“ — Two cuts with very different cooking times on one grid — the actual skill at a braai.
- 32:42„Braai Broodjie Magic“ — The broodjies go on last, onto the coals that are dropping off.
